Which Chevy Truck is Right For Me?

If you're in the market for a new truck, you'll undoubtedly come across these three main options: the Chevy Colorado, Silverado 1500, or Silverado HD. Which one is right for you? Let's go over some of their features and see if we can't help you decide.

Chevrolet Colorado

The Chevrolet Colorado is the perfect truck for people who need the convenience of a truck bed, up to 7,000 pounds of trailering capability, and substantial off-road abilities - all without breaking the bank or taking up too much space on the road. Compared to the Silverado, the Colorado's smaller size lends itself to extra nimbleness and maneuverability, making the midsize truck more practical when driving in the city or parking in tight spots.

In its segment, the Colorado is one of the best-rounded trucks you can buy. It rides smoothly and confidently, more like a crossover than a truck, with a precise steering feel and low amount of vibrations. But it's off the road that it truly comes into its own. The Colorado Z71, equipped with four-wheel drive, shrugs off most trails, while the incredible Colorado ZR2's all-terrain capability is such that you might as well call it a rock climber.

The Colorado has plenty of tech as well, with more infotainment features than its rivals-including an intuitive 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ smartphone integration, built-in Wi-Fi, and the excellent MyLink voice recognition system.

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Silverado 1500 is Chevrolet's most popular product - and for good reason. It checks all of the boxes with a diverse selection of capable engines including an efficient turbodiesel, impressive interior quality, and state-of-the-art technology features.

Under the hood, a wide range of possible engines suit an even wider variety of needs. Options include a turbocharged four-cylinder, two V8s, and a Duramax® turbodiesel six-cylinder, all bringing something valuable to the table. At the top end, the 6.2-liter V8 and Duramax® engines deliver 13,300 pounds of max towing capability, but even the most affordable four-cylinder can still tow up to 9,500 pounds. And while the Duramax® delivers exceptional performance, it still gets up to 31 mpg on the highway.[1]

If the Silverado 1500's engines are diverse, its interior options are a true multitude. The affordable, stripped-down Work Truck model puts the capability of the Silverado in your hands without cranking up your monthly payments, but also without compromising build quality or essential features. While at the top end, the Silverado 1500 High Country combines luxurious appointments with high-end technologies - such as wireless smartphone connectivity and a 13.4 inch touch-screen display - to deliver a genuinely premium experience.

Chevrolet Silverado HD

The Chevy Silverado HD is the truck you should consider if you have exceptional towing and hauling needs. Whether you're buying privately or commercially, Chevrolet's heavy-duty trucks are exceptional tools with bold styling and the capability to move small mountains.

Both the Chevy Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD are powered by a standard 6.6-liter V8 engine producing 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, and offered with an optional Duramax® 6.6-liter V8 putting out up to 910 lb-ft of torque. The latter is paired with a heavy-duty Allison® 10-speed automatic and both engines can be had with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, as well as with single- or dual-rear-wheel axles.

Properly equipped, the 2500HD can tow up to 18,510 pounds while the 3500HD can tow up to 36,000 pounds - and haul up to 7,442 pounds in the bed. A wide array of towing technologies and cameras make it easier than ever for novice and veteran drivers to actually move all of that weight.

Overall, the Silverado 1500 is the best starting point for most truck customers. The Silverado HD is a worthwhile upgrade for people who really need all of that extra capability, while the Colorado is a better option if you're just looking for truck practicality but don't necessarily want to deal with the inconvenience of driving a large truck.
